Qualcomm CEO Steven Mollenkopf announced today a new suite of devices based on their Snapdragon 820 SOCs; SnapDragon 820A and 820Am targeted for embedded automotive applications. These bring smartphone features to the automotive space.
The SOCs have 4 video output streams to handle dashboard, navigation, and entertainment systems displays. The Adreno 530 GPU provides 40% faster video processing and adds 4K HD output to the dash. 6 camera input streams are available for car navigation , communication, and live streaming The 820Am includes a 4G LTE radio and Wifi 802.11an multi-gig connectivity.
Other new features of note: Modular setup that allows in car next gen hardware updates, OTA software update capabilities, all major satellite navigation systems are supported and adaptive driving assistance with the Qualcomm Zeroth api is built in.
