The Video Technology Magazine editors will be attending this event. AWE is one of the best conferences that focuses on the technology and business of augmented reality (AR to most people). This is not just academic theory, but practical experience and case studies, plus an exhibit hall with the top vendors in the field. If you are using AR, or plan to explore it for business purposes then this is worth your attention. (The attached infographic is fun and insightful.)
AUGMENTED WORLD EXPO (AWE) MAPS OUT HOW TO GET YOUR SUPERPOWERS USING AUGMENTED AND VIRTUAL REALITY
AWE Infographic illustrates the AR and VR tech showcased at this year’s expo which are bringing superpowers to the people
NEW YORK – June 2, 2015 – Augmented and virtual reality are bringing superpowers to the people. From super strength to super intelligence, these new technologies are turning ordinary experiences into extraordinary. To help people find their superpowers, Augmented World Expo (AWE) has put together a superpower map connecting technologies available today to powers we once thought only comic book characters could possess.
Some of the examples in this infographic include:
-Telekinesis: Thalmic’s gesture control armband Myo lets you move things with the wave of your hand
-Time Travel: Octagon Map Story combines maps and history to recreate the history of the universe in an Augmented way
-Matter Manipulation: The augmented reality (AR) sandbox allows users to create topography models by shaping real sand, which is then augmented in real time by an elevation color map, topographic contour lines, and simulated water
-Super Intelligence: Qualcomm Vuforia mobile vision platform reinvents the way you interact with the world. It connects real world objects with the world’s digital information super charging your knowledge and memory
-Precognition: Lowe’s holoroom lets you see your room designed before you even lift a paintbrush
Attendees of AWE will be able to acquire most of these superpowers themselves on the exhibitor floor at the event. Those attending the expo will go hands on with over a dozen augmented reality smart glasses such as ODG, Meta, DAQRI and Epson Moverio BT-200 and a room filled with immersive virtual reality (VR) experiences in the new VR expo created in partnership with UploadVR including Bjork’s VR film “Stonemilker” which debuted at the MoMA in New York in March of this year.
Also featured in the virtual reality exhibit hall is a social VR experience from AltSpaceVR, AIRFLOW, a suspended flying experience, 360Heros spherical 360 3D VR cameras, Dysonics 3D audio, 3D painting with Tiltbrush on the HTC Vive (only Tuesday), the Ricoh Theta 360 camera, and much more.
Along with the exhibitors, AWE is pleased to announce that Aviad Almagor, Augmented Reality Program Manager at Trimble has joined the prestigious group of headliners featured on day two of the event. Trimble is one of the official partners working with Microsoft on its much talked about and anticipated augmented smart glasses, Hololens. Almagor joins fellow keynote speakers at this year’s event; Steve Mann, the father of wearable computing; Tom Furness, the grandfather of augmented and virtual reality; David Brin, award-winning Sci-Fi author and scientist; and Google’s Project Tango lead, Johnny Lee.
AWE takes place at the Santa Clara Convention Center on June 8-10, 2015. The theme of this year’s show is “Superpowers to the People”, showcasing how AR, VR, wearable and IoT technology can grant a wide range of real world superpowers to anyone. Tickets are on sale now. Can’t attend AWE 2015 in person? AWE is offering a BEAM telepresence robot for an hour or a day to “walk” around the exhibit floor, have conversations with attendees and exhibitors while they see you in real time. To learn more about the BEAM experience or to book one, head on over to the AWE website.
